More Small Meals Less Snacks Please

in: Diets

Think about your diet in it’s infancy stage because this is the natural order of things. When you are an infant your natural instinct is to eat every few hours. What is it you eat every few hours? A meal, not a snack but a small perfectly portioned meal. We get full we instinctively stop. If you truly want to get back to a real healthy way of eating look into small meals all day. Be sure to read the article after the short video clip and leave your comments at the end.

Why Mini Meals Make Smart Snacks ?

No doubt a handful of nuts or a piece of fruit are healthy snacks, but they may be not always the best choices for weight loss, according to recent study. Researchers at the University of Buffalo in New York found that when people have an item they consider a “meal food” (such as thick slices of turkey), they eat less afterward than those who grab typical noshing items such as chips, crackers or popcorn. Researchers say that diners perceive the first group of foods as more substantial, so they tend to consume fewer calories at their next meal. As example, try these option : half of peanut butter and jelly sandwich or tuna salad on rye crackers.

3 Expert Ways To Avoid A Binge

Go over board on snacks, and you’ll blow your daily calorie budget. Kim Gorman, M.S., R.D., weight management program director at the University of Colorado at Boulder, highlights 3 times when snacking can go awry and discusses how to prevent it.

In front of the tube :-

Frequent TV viewers are likelier to snack heavily and be overweight than those who don’t tune on as much, a study from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services indicates.
Snack Solution : It’s easy to mindlessly munch when you’re absorbed in a show, but you don’t have to stop watching. Instead, dish out a single serving of a low-calorie option, like fruit salad or popcorn.

When hanging out with friends :-

Being with a group can mean you’re exposed to a variety of tempting foods.
Snack Solution : Instead of sharing a bunch of different things, pick just one food (like the shrimp cocktail or one kind of chips),
and stick with that. You’ll tire of it sooner and consume less than if you sample an array of dishes, a study in the journal Appetite reveals.

After a workout :-

You’ve put in your time at the gym, now you’re ready to head home for a hearty meal.

Snack Solution :-

If you’re not going to chow down within an hour of finishing your workout, have a 100 calorie snack like an apple or banana. Waiting too long to eat after exercise will cause your blood sugar levels to drop and increase your chances of bingeing.
