The 2 Month Decline Of Healthy Diets

November has begun and so has the decline and quality of peoples diets across the land. Everyone starts clearing out the last of their candy dishes increasing the sugar levels we start to take in. Calendars start to fill up as office parties, family parties and friendly gathering s start to increase for the holiday season. There are less hours of the day that have sunlight now so people are starting to stay in more with the colder weather as well.

The next stretch of two months is perhaps one of the most difficult times of year for people to stick to their healthy eating habits. Seems like everywhere you turn in the next two months you will see more opportunities to eat cakes, pies, cookies, sodas and alcohol. Either some is bringing the goodies into work or your going to a holiday celebration where the menu is nothing but rich yummy foods. This plus the decrease in daylight hours it’s no wonder why our bodies seemingly go into a form of hibernation.

Let’s face it people get emotional during the holidays and when emotions start to run higher or lower than normal one of the first things we do to cope is seek out the comfort foods or in some cases comfort drinks.  Just the phrase comfort foods is almost debilitating to some people as they here the phrase and automatically go for the favorite easy to get to snack. It’s like all the stars align together for the next two months to corrupt our diets.

Mother and ChildI personally feel the main contributor to this downward spiral that so many millions of people experience every year has everything to do with the increased cold weather and decreased exposure to sunlight. People always attempt to snap out of their funk in January with a new years resolution which more than likely is given up by early February. Why is that? Again I think it has everything to do with the climate, notice how everything comes alive in the spring especially the people and their renewed commitment to get fit for summer! I wonder if an increase in vitamin D would help since that’s what our bodies get so much of when we do get that sunlight. I do know a few people who have artificial sun lights at their office desk because they sit in a cube all day and they swear by them. Any other ideas to help combat this difficult two month funk that so many people seem to fall into?
